Using the EventEdge

MarketHistory.com's EventEdge trade discovery tool is a powerful online trader's assistant. What it does can be broken down into three tasks:
  • Observe - it describes the current situation in a given stock, futures market or foreign exchange rate, and all the important 'headline' events that have occurred in the last five trading days for that instrument. It shows you where that instrument is in its current trend picture. It also reports on other markets and indexes, and describes economic and calendar events that may be relevant in the last five trading days.

  • Select - It lets you select which of the events, trend conditions and seasonal factors which you consider to be most important to you in your analysis of this item, and to query a historical database, without any programming knowledge, to discover how that instrument has performed in the trading days following the occurrences of an event or combination of events. EventEdge lets you write a complex historical query based on what is true and relevant right now in the instrument you are interested in.

  • Detect - The unique EventEdge chart display shows you immediately everything you need to know about the history of that event, and whether or not there is a trade-able edge. It reports, in one simple graph:
    1. how many times the event has occurred in the past
    2. how the instrument has performed, on a percentage change basis, after the event
    3. whether there is any consistency in the instrument's reaction to that event
    4. whether that edge is bullish or bearish
    5. the strength of the edge
    6. the time over which the edge unfolds
    7. the quality, or reliability of the edge

The EventEdge chart describes the edge visually and in the text caption beneath the chart.

The user can also click on the Data tab to see the underlying data used to draw the chart and the statistics on all the events.

The user can click on the Bar Charts tab to see each individual occurrence on a bar chart so you can see exactly how the instrument performed in the historical cases.

The EventEdge also scans the entire market searching for the occurrence of interesting events among various baskets of stocks, including custom baskets you can define yourself. You can scan the list and find stocks which have had interesting events occur. EventEdge lets you go where the action is to find the trading opportunities where you are more likely to find good edges.
